Making
Your Website Template Using Nvu

Make
a new folder titled Nvu Files in your documents folder
Open
Nvu
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Disable
CSS:
Tools
on toolbar, then Preferences
= Uncheck CSS = OK

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Make
Template:
(Using a template greatly reduces web building time) On
toolbar, click on:
File
= New = Blank = Template
(Save
as Template1 in Nvu Templates folder
 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Make
a table:
On
toolbar,
Click
on:
Table
= Insert = Table
or
click on the table icon
on
toolbar
Choose
9 cells (3X3) and click on the last
cell

you
should now have three rows with 3 cells showing in your workspace
Don't
worry if the table doesn't look as below, we will format it.

click anywhere in any cell, select Table Cell Properties
Click
on the Table tab
Your
table properties should be:
Rows
= 3, Columns = 3,
Width = 100 %of window
Border
= 0, Spacing = 0, Padding = 0
Table
Alignment = Center, Caption = none

Table
Background color (click on gray button) choose
white then OK
then click OK (Save)
(You should always pick a background color even if it is white)

You
will then be taken back to the Table Properties page,
click
on APPLY, then OK.

Now
format the Background of your Page:
On
the toolbar select Format, then
Page
Colors and Background the following box will pop up

Choose
the button Use custom colors, then choose
background.
A color picker box will pop up just as
for
the choosing of your Table color...choose blue, then OK
Now
your page should look like this:

Highlight
1st row of cells (so that both rows are bordered in black)
right
click, select join selected cells (Save)

Highlight
3rd row of cells (so that both rows are bordered in black)
right
click, select join selected cells (Save)

Right
click on left cell on 2nd row
table
cell properties
width
= 20% of window (Save)

Now
click on the left cell in second row and format
the
same. NOTE: you can give these cells another
color
by choosing the background box and choosing
a
background color. See below:

Now
select Left Cell in the center row and type the word text
and
highlight it choose Insert
on toolbar chooose: Templates
= Insert Editable Area
name it Links
Area
Type, choose Block = check all boxes
cllick
OK, then (Save)

Now
select Right Cell in the center row and type the word text
and
highlight it choose Insert
on toolbar chooose: Templates
= Insert Editable Area
name it Ads
Area
Type, choose Block = check all boxes
cllick
OK, then (Save)

Now
select Center Cell in the center row and type the word text
and
highlight it choose Insert
on toolbar chooose: Templates
= Insert Editable Area
name it Content
Area
Type, choose Block = check all boxes
click
OK, then (Save)

Now
your template should look like this:

Put
headline in top cell or banner, graphic, etc (Save)
NOTE:
If using a graphic, be sure to use alternate text
Put
picture, copyright, AR form, etc in bottom cell (Save)
To
insert copyright: Click on Insert
on toolbar, then
Characters
and Symbols
 Choose
the copyright symbol from the drop down list.
When
you have your header and footer formatted the way you want
save and Close workspace

Now
to use the template:
Click
on File = New
based on template
Choose
file from your Nvu Templates folder (template1.mzt)
Create
in New Tab = OK (Save as Index.html)
To
edit your entry:
Right
click anywhere in the center row
Click
on Edit (on
toolbar), then Detach From
Template
this
will allow you to edit your template. (Save)
Put
picture, links or adsense in left cell (Save)
Put
body text in right cell (Save)
Save
your file and you are ready to publish
Publish
with the FTP program of your choice
